Politics. Hurricanes. World Series. Gangsters.
Tampa. Bakersfield. Boston. Kansas City.
Veteran newsman Rob Finnerty has been just about everywhere in the United States and covered just about everything.
And he’s done it with an easy-going and hard-charging style.
But don’t let his endless smile fool you.
As host of “Wake Up America,” Rob brings decades of news-gathering experience.
He knows what stories his viewers want to understand. He’s been an anchor and reporter for the CBS affiliate in Tampa.
He’s been a local morning show anchor at KCTV in Kansas City and KBAK/KBFX in Bakersfield, California.
And he was the only local reporter allowed into the Santa Monica, California apartment where notorious South Boston gangster James “Whitey’’ Bulger lived while he was on the run from the FBI.
A communications major at Fairfield University in Connecticut, Rob was hired out of college by a sports radio station in Boston. After that, he made the transition to television as a sports anchor and reporter at New England Cable News, where he covered the World Series and the NBA Finals.
But Rob’s not alone every day on “Wake Up America.” Rachel Rollar joins him to form a dynamic duo.
Known for her engaging reporting, Rachel delivers national and international news and social media updates.
One of her features on “Wake Up America’’ is intriguingly called “Rachel’s Rapid Reactions,” where she show what people are talking about in real time on social media in hope of bridging the gap between the audience and the newscast.
Rachel is a graduate of Florida State University and had previously co-hosted WCNC TV’s popular breakfast show “Wake Up Charlotte” in Charlotte, North Carolina.
